Tillage Attachments Get Advanced Sharpening From Case’s New Robo-Sharpener
Case already broke new ground with the True-Tandem 330 Turbo tillage attachment by creating new blade designs and adding a center blade. The new blade design brought benefits for leveling soil, breaking tough roots free, and cutting hard corn stalks, but it introduced a challenge for any farmer attempting to sharpen the wavy blades.
New Age of Tiller Disc Sharpening
Even normal tillage blades can be a challenge to sharpen. The tillage unit and a tractor have to be near the maintenance area. All of the blades have to be removed for some systems, or at least set-up for sharpening with custom equipment. Then the process of sharpening can take hours to get each blade back to near new condition, if possible. All of these burdens disappear with the Robo-Sharpener.
Case designed the Robo-Sharpener for use at any time, out in the field, or before starting tilling for the day. The unit moves along the length of the gang of blades and the operator links the sharpener up with the blade. Then a gang motor engages the blade and the robotic sharpener puts a new edge on the complex geometry of the blade. Fortunately, the sharpener uses only the weight of the sharpening system for guiding the grinder along the blade. No complicated components to break.
Tiller Attachment Sharpening Saves Money and Time
The result is that the Robo-Sharpener puts a perfect edge on the True-Tandem 330 Turbo tillage blades every time. According to Case, the sharpening system saves over 85% of the cost of sharpening compared to standard tillage blades and sharpeners. The system works just as well on standard straight or concave blades, but really shines when matched to the Case tillage attachments because it was designed to mount with them.
Having sharp blades for any tiller means that the tractor pulls through tough crop residue and soil more cleanly and uses less horsepower. Running at lower horsepower brings the all important benefit of saving fuel and saving money. Sharp blades on a well oiled tiller can significantly drop fuel costs for tractors pulling over crops that have stiff residue, like corn.
Tractor Tilling Attachments Drive Fuel Costs
The True-Tandem 330 Turbo has multiple tools that manipulate the soil. Any tractor pulling that much soil past four separate tilling tools will require almost four times the torque for one operation, such as disking. While the advantages of Case’s system for producing thoroughly tilled, aerated, and leveled soil are substantial, the load on any tractor pulling this advanced tilling unit is also substantial. Using the Robo-Sharpener and keeping the blades in like new condition makes the True-Tandem 330 Turbo tilling system pull less, produce more easily tilled soil, and keep the fuel consumption for the tractor to a minimum.
